Vital Vauxhall

In year four we are learning about Luton and how Vauxhall made cars.So a man called Andrew who was fifty nine years old,who worked at vuaxhall at the age of eighteen.Came to talk to us about the history of vauxhall and how it became famous.Vauxhall has been through a lot of expiriences.Vauxhall was fouded by Alexander WILSON.

They have made  vauxhall army trucks to vauxhall cars.First they started from a small buisness ,until the world war when Germany came to invade Britain, people started to lose their jobs so they started to bring people from Ireland and Scotland. Also, people from America came to Luton and said that they could make vauxhall bigger by  shiping a building from America to Luton.

Now vauxhall has turned out to be a fabulous car making factory.

Fabulous!

All teachers have a secret yearning to be included in our blog, and while we do mention them by name for their contribution to school life, we rarely have, so far, included their photo - something we must  address in the future!

So - to start us off- just for being fabulous - here is Miss Campbell!

Dick King-Smith

In year 3 we have been learning about the author Dick King Smith.  Some of his books are called The Fox Busters, Horse Pie, Billy the Bird, All because of Jackson and possibly his most famous, The Sheep Pig, which was made into the movie Babe. He was born on 27 March 1922 and   died on 4 January, 2011.  His first book was The Fox Busters, published in 1978.  He was a teacher and a farmer, and his favourite animals were pigs.  We have many of his books in our class and school libraries, and we recommend you choose one to read.  They are funny, sad, entertaining and enjoyable!

First Holy Communion Season

Over the next few weekends, many of the Year 3  children will be receiving  their First Holy Communion in their parishes, with their family and friends. Please keep them in your prayers as they take the next step on their Faith Journey.   We hope they all have memorable days!

Frank Diamond's back!!

Frank came in again on Tuesday to share with us that if we donate some money for CAFOD, it really helps people in Africa. He talked about 'Faith in Action', Fairtrade and his experiences in Africa. He sang a special song called Lean On Me, telling us we depend on each other.  He gratefully collected the cheque of our combined fundraising efforts, which came to over £1000!!  Frank then met with the School councilFairtrade Reps, to answer their questions and suggest ideas to lors and the help in the future.

The Easter Garden

Since the beginning of Lent, the shed in the Prayer Garden has had a cross and things associated with the crucifixion in it.
After Easter, we changed the  fabric colour  from purple to yellow, to show the joy of the Resurrection.   There are several items laying at the foot of the cross.    Do you know what they are?

The Outdoor Classroom

This area is familiar to children on the Big Playground.  It is fenced off at the moment, but in the future we are hoping it will be put to good use, and will be developed into an Outdoor Classroom for use by all the children.

Mrs Lee and the school council members are planning to get together to discuss the possibilities!

Rocks and Soils

Mixing the ingredients
In year 3  we are learning about rocks and soils.  These are the places you can find rocks - at the beach, in the playground, underground.  Lots of things are made from rocks, like glass, metal and plastics.
They tasted better than they looked!
Some Rocks are made by many different materials being stuck together - and in Year 3 we made some of these by mixing a variety of ingredients with melted chocolate to show the different rocks being stuck together.

New blinds in year three

Returning to school after the weekend, we were surprised by the lovely, light new blinds in Year 3 and many of our classrooms, replacing the darker, broken ones.

They block the sun we sometimes get shining in our windows, and make it easier to see the whiteboards.

It is so lovely to have such creative and talented people in the school. The boys who produced this beautiful mosaic picture of the last Supper are  Ethan, Albin and Jehovahis from Year 5. We are very glad that Mrs Lee showed it in assembly. It is on display in the hall, very appropriate for Holy Week.

Wow! Volcanoes are blasting out lava!  In our Creative Curriculum topic on St. Lucia, we have been looking at how the island was formed, and how volcanoes work.  We even created our volcano, though we were a little disappointed that the top of the volcano wasn't blown off by a  huge explosion!

Bikeability

When cycling on the road, it is very important that we are confident and know the rules of the road.  To help with this, each year we have the Bikeability team in for 2 weeks, working with Year 5, helping them to gain confidence checking and cycling their bikes, as well as teaching how to behave when cycling on the road.

On Tuesday the 26th of February the year 5s who wanted to brought in their bikes to be checked to ensure they were safe before the training started.  The team made  little repairs where possible.

We hope everyone gains loads of experience and has an enjoyable time!

LiD Assembly

The LiD project is 'Learning in Depth, which started last year.  One or two children in each class were selected to take part, and they were assigned a topic to work on.  Through the year, they researched and presented their ideas, took part in workshops with the other participating schools and  today they had the opportunity to present their work to the school, which they did in a  brilliant assembly, with the Apples, Jewels, Islands, Bridges and Explorers groups sharing with us what they have been doing. Some very impressive work! Well done to the children working on the project, and Mrs. Massey who works with them.

Irish dancing

Every Thursday morning Mr Conway does Irish dancing Club.
Some of the dances  are the Reel, Hopjig, light jig and the slipjig. Then there's the heavy dances that are called Heavy jig, Hormpipe and a st dance. They are all different.
We haven't gotten onto those dances in the morning club yet, but with lots of practice, who knows?

Ancient Egyptian day

Year three had an Ancient Egyptian day to mark the end of our Ancient Egyptian topic.  We all got to dress up as an Egyptian person - even the adults!  We  were shown how to make carvings,  incense, bread, mummify, write in Hieroglyphs,  make perfume, painting, canopic  Jars and bracelets
We got to have a Banquet, and in small groups, we got to perform dances or dramas.  We did the drama.  The dances were the dance of the river Nile and the story of the Clay crocodile. The drama was  the story of Isis and Osiris, and the other group  were court petitioners, begging justice from the pharaoh.
While the children where doing acts, the servants were giving out food to eat - brown rolls, cheese, grapes and apples. We also had blackcurrant juice to drink, from lovely silver goblets.

It was a great experience and everyone had a wonderful time.
